Stump Grinding
Stump grinding in Royston and Cambridge, further for larger contracts, to include Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and North London.Working for local Councils and private home owners.
Stumps and roots may remain in the ground causing no harm, however, if you wish to replant, build or just don't want to be left with an unsightly rotten stump then it is may be necessary to grind the stump out.
Stump grinding removes the core of the tree and most signifcant tap roots, thus killing off the tree and preventing regrowth, all the stump is ground away leaving a crater, this is easily back filled with the left over grindings.
Some of the reasons why a stump should be removed:
- When a new building is to be constructed
- A new fence is to be erected
- When it is not appealing to leave an old stump
- Or the tree was decayed or diseased
How it works
The Stump grinder has a large cutter wheel with a number of teeth, this is placed onto the stump and lowered progressively until the stump is ground out.
Our machine is capable of grinding various sizes of stumps and can grind to a depth of about 10 - 12 inches below ground level. This may leave some deeper root systems in place however without the live tree in place these will naturally rot away.
Where full root removal is required we are able to do this with a digger, this may only be when a new building is to be erected, and or foundations are to be laid.
After the stump is ground out
Left behind will be a pile of chippings and soil left in the hole to rot away. However if the stump was diseased and threatens the health of other plants we would advice chippings and immediately surrounding soil be removed and replaced
which obviously we can do for you.
Underground Services, garden walls and fencing
One of the dangers of stump grinding is pipes, cables and wires to underground services. Most services should be buried below the maximum depth of our stump grinder. However there is no legislation determining what that depth should be.
Unless a map or plan showing the exact location of under ground pipes, wires and cables is given by the owner or land agent to the operator prior to the stump grinding. Acorn to Oak and employees thereof shall be under no liability for any loss or damage caused to pipes, cables or wires or any consequential loss including but not limited to loss of profit or loss of use resulting from work carried out under contract.
The stump grinder causes a fair amount of vibration to the surrounding ground
therefore if the stump is in close proximity of a wall or building the owner or land agent will be required to sign a form accepting the risk and excepting full responsibility for damage caused as a result of stump grinding.
Due to the nature of stump grinding although restricted and every precaution taken some debris may fly out at a significant speed. It is possible that small damage may occur to fencing or glass in the immediate area. We do hold full insurance against such damage. On occasion due to the location of a stump it may be necessary to remove light weight fencing panels.
Accessibility
The stump grinder will fit through most standard gateways, and travel across most terrain.
